Is SEIDO a trustworthy brand? Should you buy SEIDO Japanese Master Chef Knife Set?

If you like cooking, you may wonder if SEIDO Japanese Master Chef Knife Set is really good enough to help you cook with ease and flexibility.

Since my younger brother is a chef and his birthday is coming, I have spent some time researching SEIDO Japanese Master Chef Knife Set to see if it is a great gift.

Hence I can share with you what I know about the brand Seido Knife.

At the end of this article, I’ll also tell you where to get the best alternative for the Seido™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set.

Below is what I’ll cover in this review of the SEIDO Japanese Master Chef Knife Set.

What is SEIDO Knife?

SEIDO™ Japanese Master Chef Knives are Japanese-inspired knives. The design and craftsmanship are all Japanese styles.

SEIDO™ Japanese Master Chef Knive Set’ selling point is their sharpness. They claim to cut meat, frozen food or fruits better than other knives because of their excellent craftsmanship.

The knives are made of stainless steel so that it is durable and corrosion-resistant. There are various knives available in their knife set:

  • 8” Chef Knife
  • 8” Slicing Knife
  • 8” Bread Knife
  • 7” Santoku Knife
  • 7” Cleaver Knife
  • 6” Boning Knife
  • 5” Santoku Knife
  • 3.5” Paring Knife

However, when I was going to fill in my credit card information, I found that there is another brand called Seitoku™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set which has all the features and benefits of SEIDO™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set but is sold at a much lower price.

That’s why I ended up buying the Seitoku™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set for my younger brother instead and it turned out to be a great decision!

Why Do You Need SEIDO Knife?

If you like cooking, you should understand how important knives are.

You can save a lot of time and energy by cutting different ingredients with a sharp and lightweight knife.

Also, different ingredients have different textures and sizes, it’s much more convenient to have a collection of knife sets ready in the kitchen. You will have more flexibility in making any cuisines you can imagine.

For example, an 8” slicing knife is great for cutting thin slices of roast, fruits and vegetables. 6” Boning knife can be used to cut meat away from bones and joints easily.

Different knives are crafted for a specific purpose in cooking. If you only use one type of knife, it’s much harder to cook different meals, especially if you care about the aesthetic look of foods.

After all, cooking is not just for eating but also an art that you want to make look beautiful. You can have more control over the appearance with the help of professional knives.

If you know anyone who likes cooking, giving him or her a professional knife is a perfect gift.

The Pros of Seido Knife

Sharpened by hand to 13-15° per side, the blade maintains a perfect balance between ultra-thin slicing and maximum resilience for smooth cutting.

2. Ingenious Design

SEIDO™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set has a combination of Western and Japanese design elements. This sharp knife is made from laser-etched wooden veneer and features a waved pattern. With it, simple cooking can become something beautiful.

3. Multipurpose

The gentle curve of the blade makes cutting easy and precise. It is ideal for mincing, dicing, and slicing fruit, meat, fish, and vegetables in the kitchen because of its excellent performance.

SEIDO Knife Cons and Complaints

1. It is overpriced

The Seido knife set is overpriced because it has spent a lot of money on advertising. In order to cover the marketing costs, they have to sell the knife set at a much higher price. If you’d like a budget-friendly option, you might choose the Seitoku™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set instead. It has all the features and benefits of the Seido knife set.

2. Inefficient logistics in some less developed countries

Less developed countries such as India and Argentina may experience longer delivery times due to less efficient logistics. However, shipping is usually not an issue if you live in a developed country like the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, etc.

3. You must learn to use the right knife for the right job

SEIDO™ Japanese Master Chef Knife Set comes with different types of knives. You must use the right knife for the right job. You chop with a chopping knife, you cut bone with a boning knife, and you cut meat with a carving knife. If you fail to do so, your blade will get really dull and small parts will break off. Chipping is what this process is called. What a waste of such a SEIDO Knife!

4. Don’t let your children or pets play with SEIDO knives

SEIDO Knives are very sharp. Your kids and pets should be kept away from the kitchen area if they love to play around in there.

5. Dishwasher detergent can damage SEIDO Knives

SEIDO knives can handle water, but dishwasher detergent can damage them.

6. SEIDO knives need sharpening eventually

No matter how carefully you cut, your SEIDO knife will eventually need sharpening. Dull blades automatically cause you to use more force, making accidents more likely. SEIDO knives should therefore be kept sharp. It also simplifies the process of cutting things. Sharpening should not be left to the last minute. It’s easier to maintain a fairly sharp edge than to get a dull blade sharp again.
