How We Test Pillows

We employ a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to develop a comprehensive and unbiased understanding of each pillow we evaluate. Our team of expert reviewers sleeps on each pillow for a minimum of three weeks, allowing sufficient time for the body to adjust. Additionally, we conduct extensive scientific testing to assess each pillow’s performance thoroughly.

To ensure our assessments are holistic and inclusive, we invite a diverse panel of testers to evaluate each pillow based on specific performance criteria. Since comfort preferences vary from person to person, we consider factors such as weight, height, preferred sleeping position, and body temperature. This approach allows us to provide recommendations that cater to the needs of different individuals.

In addition to our own testing, we analyze thousands of user reviews and interview individual pillow owners to gain insights into long-term performance. All our findings are meticulously recorded in a database, enabling us to compare and contrast different pillows accurately.

How We Gather Pillow Data

Our pillow data is sourced from various channels, including:

  1. In-house product testing
  2. User reviews
  3. Pillow manufacturers

How We Evaluate Pillows

We utilize the following criteria to evaluate pillows:

1. Firmness Rating

Pillow firmness is crucial for providing adequate support and comfort. We use a scale of 1 to 10 to assess firmness, considering factors such as sinkage, contouring, and support. Our testing methods include measuring sinkage with a weighted object, subjective evaluations from our reviewers, and feedback from our diverse panel of testers.

2. Performance Rating

We rate pillow performance on a scale of 1 to 5 based on factors such as ease of setup, off-gassing, pressure relief, motion isolation, temperature regulation, edge support, durability, and value for money. Our assessments are conducted through rigorous testing protocols and user feedback analysis.
