Bang Bang Chicken Recipe: How to Make It

Ingredients (2 Servings)

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil 
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk 
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch 
  • 1 egg 
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce 
  • Salt and pepper, to taste 
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into small pieces 
  • 1/2 cup panko crumbs 
  • 1/8 cup mayonnaise 
  • 1 tbsp sweet chili sauce 
  • 1/2 tbsp honey 
  • 1 tsp Frank’s hot sauce 


  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, honey, and hot sauce. Set aside. 
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. 
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, flour, cornstarch, egg, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. 
  4. Dip the chicken pieces one at a time into the buttermilk mixture then roll in the panko crumbs. 
  5. In batches, add the chicken to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes or until golden and crisp. Then transfer to a paper-towel lined plate. 
  6. Drizzle with the sauce you made in step 1 and serve.
